Introduction to RESPs
Getting back to the basics and discussing scenarios will help participants understand RESP terminology, deposit amounts, age restrictions, forms requirements, the grant and bond available and withdrawals for the more common situations. An important session for staff who deal with the RESP members on an occasional basis by providing them with “take home” material that will assist with handling members more efficiently and effectively.
Advanced RESP
Designed for staff who have dealt with RESPs in the past but either wish a refresher or want more detailed information on the legislation than the Introduction to RESP session provided. Topics covered include contributions, Canada Education Savings Grant (CESG), Canada Learning Bond (CLB), relationship breakdown, options available on death of the subscriber or beneficiary, CESG and CLB grant form requirements, Educational Assistance Payments (EAP) and what choices the subscriber has if the beneficiary does not go to post-secondary school.
The session includes true or false legislative questions; case studies on determining the applicable grant form and workshops on the CESG and CLB and assisting subscribers in choose the appropriate split of EAP and contribution withdrawals.
