Basic RRSP

3 hour session (half-day)

A lecture style presentation that covers definitions, forms required to open a new plan, RRSP Room Statement, contributions, official receipts, spousal plans, cash withdrawals, 3-year attribution rule, age 71 requirements, beneficiaries, Home Buyers and Life Long Learning programs. 

5 hour session (full day)

Tailored to staff who have little or no experience with RRSPs.  Participants’ confidence will receive a boost on this important topic with the help of true or false reviews throughout the presentation, workshop questions on the important points and actual form completion on new RRSP purchases. Content includes definitions, forms required to open a new plan, the RRSP Room Statement, contributions, official receipts, spousal plans, cash withdrawals, 3-year attribution rule, age 71 requirement, naming a beneficiary, Home Buyers and Life Long Learning programs.

Advanced RRSP

5 hour session (full day)

Ideal for staff who have some knowledge on RRSPs but now wish to learn more in order to be of greater assistance to members.  Reviews current RRSP legislation including the Room Statement (PA, PSPA, PAR); special contributions and transfers such as retiring allowances, American IRA, foreign pension plans; designation of beneficiaries; withholding tax on withdrawals; third party demands; relationship breakdowns; the advantage clause; removal of contributor information; transfers-out; Home Buyers and Life Long Learning programs, estate payout options for a surviving spouse/  common-law partner (clp) and taxation on death when paid to non-spouse/clp or estate. The session’s use of true/false, workshop questions and scenarios allows participants to review what they have learned.
